Perhaps that’s an accurate assessment of Walt Disney Pictures’ latest attempt at capitalizing on brand recognition, “Haunted Mansion,” which is an ‘inspiration’ of this Disneyland exhibit that is soured by awful puns. One of the very first of these opened in ’69 at Disneyland, in Anaheim, California. I would like to think that Simien enjoyed directing “Haunted Mansion” more than I did while watching it, and that Disney paid him handsomely for it. It is somewhat disheartening to see him directing what is essentially a two hour long commercial for Disney, but he seems to keep the wheels turning for the most part and the good looking cast tries their best. Let’s all pray that this is his last big commercial endeavored for a big studio.

As portrayed in the title “Haunted Mansion”, the Evers family is trapped inside a strangely overwhelming house surrounded by the spirits of the ghosts. An amusing mix of spook and laughter, this film is certainly aimed for audiences of all ages.

The film’s ensemble cast gives the oddball characters who steal the show and die a second time an afterlife. Camp is instilled in each performer as they do the fun impressions of their ghostly characters, which makes the performances sweet.

Critical observers will appreciate the orthodox style of the mansion, its creative sublimity, and petulant imagery. Modern technology is used to achieve a perfect convergence of real life actors and fantasy elements.
Direction and Pacing
While the film is littered with the wondrous events throughout, there still could be some who’ll find the pacing to be somewhat inconsistent. But the tale is interesting and gets enough assistance when it comes to directing so that the audience does not feel bored.
